This website is an educational project of the Center for Puerto Rican Studies (Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños). It contains formerly secret FBI files that document surveillance activities and counter-intelligence operations that targeted Puerto Rican organizations and individuals. The files were released by the FBI in response to the initiative taken by Puerto Rican Congressman José E. Serrano (D-NY) in the spring of 2000.

The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (Centro) is a university-based research institute based at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY). Our mission is:
  • to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the diasporic experiences of Puerto Ricans and to link this scholarly inquiry to social action and policy debates; and,

  • to collect, preserve and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans.

This project has been partially supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The coordination of the project, including research direction, conceptualization, and editorial content, has been the responsibility of Centro researcher Ramón Bosque-Pérez. During the first year, the work of the research team was supported by a grant from the PSC/CUNY 32nd Research Awards Competition (June 2001 to July 2002, Award #63254-00-32) and by voluntary work donated by interns.
