   1930 \ July 25, 1938 - Governor Blanton Winship sponsors the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the U.S. military invasion of Puerto Rico in the city of Ponce (where 20 Nationalists were massacred the year before) rather than in San Juan (as previously done) or in Guánica (the landing place of the U.S. troops).:
